Tomorrow the Mn Wild will officially sign Mn Native and former Gopher, Keith Ballard, to a 2 year deal worth 3 million. Ballard, who was recently bought out by the Vancouver Canucks, will fill a void left by the Wild’s own buyout of Tom Gilbert. Ballard only managed to score 16 points in 148 games with the Canucks. The belief is that Ballard is only 30 and maybe a new fresh start for him will jump start his career once again. Only time will tell. I personally like this signing as he comes cheap and allows the Wild to maybe re sign Jared Spurgeon.
It is never fun saying goodbye to a fan favorite. First the Wild traded Cal Clutterbuck to the Isles and now Matt Cullen will be a UFA tomorrow and will sign elsewhere. Mn just did not have enough cap to re sign him after the 2 huge signings of Parise and Suter last summer. In 3 years with the Wild, he scored 33 goals in 193 games and put up 101 points. He was also a big help with the shootouts having scored 11 points there. Matt Cullen has been nothing but class and he will be sorely missed. Though he moves on, he is a Mn boy and his heart will always be here.
