Minnesota Wild Welcomes..Matt Cooke?

Matt Cooke

Last year the Wild set off big fireworks when they signed both Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. I knew there would be some fallout from this with guys moving on. I thought that Free Agency would be relatively quiet this year so was I unprepared for what happened. First, the Wild sent off Devin Setoguchi to the Winnipeg Jets for a second round pick in 2014. That move puzzled me. I figured Seto was worth more than a second round pick. Then..BOOM. Wild announced they had signed 34 year old, Matt Cooke to a 3 year contract. I admit that my mouth hit the floor and I went into shock as I am sure most Wild fans did as well. Cooke has been known as an instigator and we all know what he has done and his reputation. I am sure you can find him on you-tube if you want to check it out as I am not going to get into all of that. . I think I even tweeted No No No Cooke. Then I slept on it. Matt Cooke is a Wild player now and no outrage is going to change that. Boycotting just shows the other players you have no support for them. I may not like his past but he is on my team whom I love, so I will give him a chance. Matt put up 21 points and 36 PIM’s in this past 48 game season. He also had 41 blocked shots which was the highest for the Pens forwards. In all of the 935 games he has played, he has a +53 rating.  I have heard he is also a great community and charity guy. We are in a different division this year with bigger guys. We need someone who can protect our guys. Matt Cooke knows he has to change his game and he has been working on it for over 2 years. Knowing all of this, I say let’s give him a chance.
