Sharks fans have been waiting to hear about whether center Joe Pavelski would be offered an extension. Alas, he has! A five year contract extension will begin starting July 1, 2014 once his current contract expires. Rather than wait, the Sharks scooped him up and six more years with little Joe is a definite morale booster!
Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced this news today, stating that “Joe has been an important part of our success over the last several years and we are excited to have him with our club for the next six seasons.” Excited is quite the understatement!
The new contract won’t start until after he turns 30. To some this may be a concern, however taking the chance on little Joe is well worth the risk.
In the 2012-13 season Pavelski:
- Appeared in all 48 games
- Third in overall team points including goals, assists and shots.
- Tied in the lead with five game-winning goals
- Second in forwards in blocked shots
- Had the second-highest time on ice per game
- Led forwards in shorthanded ice time
According to the NHL, Pavelski has a total of 336 points, a +41 rating and 183 penalty minutes in 479 career NHL games with San Jose.
Here’s to another awesome six years with Pavelski at the fore!
