Get Higher Transition

So Get Higher is in a transition period…we’re moving from one home to another. Things have been moving a little slowly, but we promise the site will be back at full speed just as soon as possible. In case you’ve been missing what’s been happening in the Avs world this summer, I’ve broken it down for you.

  • The Avs hired Patrick Roy. (For those of you who cut yourselves off from society in a fit of despair after the last game of the season.) While Roy has yet to coach a game in the NHL, we’re pretty much stoked to see how things work out. (I think his attention to detail and his emphasis on passionate players will make him a strong coach for the team.)
  • Also hired to the coaching staff: Andre Tourigney (assistant coach), Mario Duhamel (video coach), Francois Allaire (goaltending coach), and Adam Foote (defensive development coach). This means Tim Army will be the only returning member of last year’s coaching staff. A bit of a dramatic overhaul, but I think these people all seem qualified, and will hopefully help the players on the ice.
  • The Avs traded Shane O’Brien and David Jones for Alex Tanguay and Cory Sarich (Sarich waived his no-trade clause). A (hopefully) even trade. (Not that I want Calgary to do well exactly, but I hope O’Brien and David Jones do well.)
  • The Avs drafted Nathan MacKinnon with the number one overall pick in this year’s entry draft. (I am still aboard the Seth Jones train.)
  • Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Duchene have been working out a lot with Sidney Crosby.
  • Matt Duchene signed a five year extension. (WAHOO.)
  • I found myself thinking I had seen a Jamie McGinn look-a-like in the grocery store. If Jamie McGinn was 5′ 6″, covered in tattoos, and had a pierced nose and lip.
  • A video of Gabe Landeskog making pancakes shirtless has made the rounds on the internet. Apparently Erik Johnson is in charge of fining people in this situation.
  • P.A. Parenteau and his fiancee welcomed a baby boy to their family. (And they named him GABRIEL.)

I think that about sums things up. I’ll get back to those player reviews I never finished (and start talking predictions, and fun posts), within the next few days!
