The Steelers offense would rebound from a slow start as their defense would generate their first real threat. The Offense was set from there and the Steelers would eventually pull away from the Ravens for a 43-23 victory.
If you looked at the offensive numbers with the 6 touchdowns, one would think that this was an offensive explosion. But that is just not the case tonight. The offense played well, but tonight the Steelers were led by their defense and their AARP defensive leaders. James Harrison played an inspired game. Brett Keisel also played well. The young guys like Antwon Blake and Brice McCain played big tonight in the secondary also.
The Ravens committed two turnovers and both were converted into touchdowns which was how this game turned on a dime.
Le’Veon Bell was ineffective tonight, but Ben Roethlisberger would throw for nearly 400 yards and 6 touchdowns. The only real mistake the Steelers made tonight was a fumble late in the fourth quarter.
The Steelers, down 7-0 would get a turnover that would turn into a Le’Veon Bell 5 yard touchdown catch to tie the game. The Steelers would get the ball right back after an interception and that would lead to a Martavis Bryant touchdown pass to put the Steelers up 14-7.
Baltimore would add a field goal to cut the lead to 14-10. Then right before the end of the half, the Steelers would get a 47 yard touchdown to Markus Wheaton to extend the lead to 20-110. Then, to top off an ugly second quarter the Steelers would botch the extra point, but the holder would be able to complete a pass in the end zone to Matt Spaeth for the two point conversion to end the half.
The game would get real chippy early in the third until the referees would get control of the game. Then in the fourth quarter, Ben would throw his 4th touchdown pass of the night to Antonio Brown. Brown would end up catching a short pass that he would turn into a touchdown with a great run after the catch.
On the opposing kick off, Jacoby Jones would run back the kick to cut the Steelers lead to 29-17. The Steelers would add a couple more touchdowns to finish the game. Ben Roethlisberger would finish the game with a record 6 TD’s in his second consecutive game. He would finish with 376 yards to go with those touchdowns.
The final score tonight 43-23 and now the Steelers get to take this momentum on the road to take on the NY Jets.
Notes: The Steelers lost Troy Polamalu to a knee sprain and Ryan Shazier did not return due to an ankle injury. Shazier was just getting back into the swing of things and to see him go out again was frustrating. The Steelers had 4 sacks and hurried Flacco all night. Arthur Moates had a big night as he caused the fumble that changed the game. He would follow that up with a sack. Harrison was ridiculous tonight with 2 sacks. Jason Worilds would intercept a ball tonight.
