FC Barcelona came out victors of the 2015 Club World Cup, defeating River Plate 3-0 Sunday in Japan.
Lionel Messi opened up the scoring, netting a goal in the 36th minute. Luis Suarez secured the win for Barcelona, capping two goals in the second half of the match. Neymar found himself in the mix as well, assisting both players with a goal each. Sergio Busquets was able to find Suarez to rack up an assist also. With Barcelona holding possession of the ball for 59% of the time, River Plate struggled to find their way to the back of the net.
This is the third time that Barcelona gained the honor of the Club World Cup. They have previously won the Cup in 2009 and 2011. 2015 proved to be an amazing year for the club, as they won the European Super Cup, the Primera División cup, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey. Teams recognize them for their stunning abilities on the pitch, and the level of talent the team brings to the sport.
Having played 15 games so far in La Liga, Barcelona finds itself at the top of the charts. They have yet to lose a game at home (7-1-0), and only have two losses this season. Although Messi missed two months of action due to a left knee injury, the team did not suffer severely. Barcelona continues its winning ways to end 2015, and looks to remain on top as 2016 approaches.
