After starting the new year with back to back losses to both LA teams, the Sixers returned home to see if they can break the losing skid. They did just that tonight with a convincing 109-99 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. This could not have been done without contributions from all players involved.
The bench provided a big spark for the Sixers tonight. Richaun Holmes and Carl Landry played vital roles tonight to help the Sixers capture their fourth win of the season. Richaun Holmes tallied 17 points on the night, while Landry provided 16, most of the points coming from mid-range jumpers that he was feasting on all night.
The return of Ish Smith continued to be a Marvel that you will be telling your children about one day. The Sixers moved to 3-3 on the season since the acquisition of Smith, who recorded a double-double tonight posting 21 points and dishing out 11 assists.
Noel continued his solid play since Ish Smith’s arrival, falling a rebound short of a double-double, tallying 10 points and 9 boards on the night. It was a quiet night for Jahlil Okafor due to being double teamed in the post all game. Okafor added 10 points on 5-8 shooting.
Finally, T.J. McConnell led a great bench tonight, doing it on both ends of the court. McConnell swiped away four steals and set up six teammates on the night. The Sixers as a team assisted on 31 buckets tonight, in a route to a victory over Minnesota to split the season series.
The Sixers (4-33), will host the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center.
