Dear Cavaliers

Dear Cavaliers,

On behalf of all Cleveland Cavaliers fans…

No…wait…

On behalf of ALL NBA FANS ACROSS THE GLOBE, I would like to personally thank you for turning the 2016 NBA Finals into a legitimate series. You started out the first 2 games with 15 and 33 point losses respectively, leading to the largest deficit EVER through the first two games of an NBA Finals. Worst of all, you acquired these losses with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson having poor games in terms of scoring the basketball.

With that in mind, fans and media alike counted you out prior to Game 3 in Cleveland. They questioned your toughness. They questioned your talent. They questioned the coaching change of David Blatt to Tyronn Lue. They questioned whether or not JR Smith got abducted and replaced by a lesser version of himself. They questioned Kyrie Irving’s ability to put the ball in the basket. They questioned whether or not LeBron James was past his prime. They questioned whether or not a team that started grandpa Richard Jefferson had a shot at knocking off the reigning world champs.

To make matters worse, a few hours before game time, it was revealed that Kevin Love would not be able to play due to the NBA’s concussion protocols – since he would need to be symptom free for at least 24 hours.

With all the scrutiny surrounding the Cavaliers, you decided to get back to what made the Cavaliers such a dominant force throughout the 2016 NBA Playoffs – hard-nosed defense, great ball movement, and oh yea…making a few 3-point shots here and there. With the talk about the NBA’s Western Conference being the clear dominant force over the Eastern Conference, the last thing the NBA needed was an NBA Finals sweep.

I don’t care whether you just proved that home-court advantage truly is prevalent, or that you just got your swagger back. I just want to thank you for giving us at least one more game of NBA basketball this season.

Sincerely,

Grant Leibow and NBA Fans Everywhere
