“I was always saying that I was really happy here. Whenever my time was here in Boston or Providence, I was really happy…with the organization, with the team, with the coaching staff and with everything. So I was really missing this place, to be honest.”
Anton Khudobin has officially made it back to Boston. Today marked the first time the returning back-up netminder joined the unofficial practices with other members of the Bruins squad.
Khudobin is most remembered for his spectacular performances during the Bruins last stellar Cup run back in 2013. (Was it really that long ago?!) In his absence Bruins gave goaltenders Niklas Svedberg and Jonas Gustavsson a chance, but neither provided the stability needed to give Rask the necessary rest. Fortunately, Khudobin not only looks beneficial on paper, but made it very clear he is happy and content to be back in Boston;
“When I flew here on Saturday and met up with my friends, we went into downtown Boston on Sunday and I was like ‘I can’t believe I came back.’ It felt like I just came back from the season, it didn’t feel like it had been three years. It’s the comfort level, the style of the city, the people around here and everything. I’m just really comfortable inside my body here.”Khudobin stated in an interview with CSNNE reporter Joe Haggerty.
Khudobin also realizes that he isn’t going to be at the No. 1 spot, and that’s okay.
“More playing time would be nice,” Khudobin stated, “It’s always good for the goalies. But I know that Tuukka is No. 1, so I just focus on my game and how I’m going to help the team.”
Last season Khudobin had a few inconsistencies that hindered his playing abilities, paired with injuries and he;s hoping to bounce back from them so we get a similar .920 save percentage and 2.32 goals against average in 14 appearances that we saw during his last stint in Boston.
“I came back to the family..I’m just really comfortable inside my body.”
With elation and good feelings going around, the hype grows a little bit more as we anxiously await the start of the 2016-2017 season.
