Seth Griffith to Toronto; Miller Out Indefinitely

Griffith to the Maple Leafs

Yesterday the Boston Bruins announced that they had placed forward Seth Griffith on waivers, with the intent of assigning him to Providence.  However, Griffith didn’t last that long as word spread around the cyber webs today that Toronto had claimed him.

At 23, Griffith had posted 6 goals and 11 assists in 34 games with the Bruins over the last couple of seasons.  He also showed promise after posting 24 goals last season in Providence in 77 games, spending some time alongside Frank Vatrano.  However, the competition was tough this year with guys like Czarnik and DeBrusk showing their skills.  Hopefully Griffith will be able to show his promise with his new home team.

Kevan Miller Out Indefinitely

In addition to Seth Griffith being claimed off waivers, the Boston Bruins also announced that defenseman Kevan Miller is going to be out for an indefinite amount of time with an undisclosed injury.  My first thought is that his knee was more than just bruised after taking a puck to the knee against Montreal.  However, media reports state that he suffered an injury in the preseason finale against the Flyers Saturday afternoon.

“Kevan Miller will likely be out for an extended period of time, but we’re waiting for the last medical report on him. So we’ll have some roster decisions. You saw the moves made yesterday to get down to the one small group today that will, in all likelihood, open up on Thursday night.

“Part of [improving the defense] is the development process of looking at some of our younger players that we want to integrate in. Now it comes down to the performance aspect of it. We’ve said all along the opportunity would be there if the younger players were able to step forward, and we’ve seen a couple of players that have emerged in that regard. Whether it’s injury or it’s through their good play, the coaching staff has been excited about their play. So we move forward with that.”-Don Sweeney (via Bruins Official Site)
