The first time these two teams played, the Bulls shocked everyone with the trio of Jimmy Butler, Rajon Rondo, and Dwyane Wade shot 9-14 from three point range. In tonight’s Celtics win another unexpected entity helped lead his team to a win, Amir Johnson scored 23 points (the most he’s had in a game with the Celtics) and shot 4-4 from three point range. Isaiah Thomas had 23 points and 10 assists.
Jae Crowder left the game early with a scary looking ankle injury and coach Brad Stevens said after the game he expects Crowder to be out “at least a week.” In his absence Jonas Jerebko looked good off the bench, logging 22 minutes and scoring 6 points and 6 rebounds.
The aforementioned three point shooting that won the Bulls their first matchup of the season against the Celtics did not show up tonight as the big three of Chicago combined to shoot just 2-10 from deep in the loss. Nikola Mirotic played well off the bench putting up a season high 17 points and 6 rebounds, but struggled when covering Amir Johnson. Jimmy Butler once again impressed scoring 23 points and did well covering Celtics shooting guard Avery Bradley to just 40% shooting.
