After the Great and Powerful “Boz” guided road weary Pittsburgh to a win, the Steelers are now poised to gain control of the division with a win over their Arch Rival… “The Baltimore Birdies.” (Ode to Myron Cope) A win gives the Steelers the division title, and an outside chance at a first round bye. With five straight wins, it is important that the Steelers continue their winning ways in order to complete the first goal they set out for to start the season. “Win the division.”
It was a hard tough battle for the Steelers this past weekend and it took everything they had, along with some more stupid antics from Bengals Linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Regardless what it took, the fact is the Steelers carry a 5 game winning streak into this game and are looking to go 1 and 0, one more time.
Today was Mike Tomlin’s press conference and he gave Steeler fans a little hope for the upcoming game. One of the Pittsburgh losses was defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt with a knee. Turns out, he could and probably will play this weekend. Ladarius Green on the other hand is in concussion protocol and with his history with concussions, I would bet that he will not be in the lineup. Tomlin also indicated we could see DeAngelo Williams. He was held out of the Cincy game because of swelling on the knee that could have come from the plane flight or a weeks worth of work. He stated that Williams will be a “Full Participant” this week. It was great to see kicker Boswell play as well as he did this past week coming off of an injury. Not to mention the game saving tackle that saved a touchdown.
The Ravens have won the last four games and 6 of the last 7. The Steelers though are hoping they do not have to use him as often this week and that they can put the ball in the endzone more. If needed, it is nice to know they have a guy they can count on to put the ball through the up rights. This week, they will need all the points they can get to beat this fired up Ravens team.
Ravens Steelers is a major rivalry game anyways, couple that with the fact that this game will be played for all the AFC North Marbles on Christmas… what an atmosphere it should be. Something else worth noting is the fact that Ben Roethlisberger, per Stats Inc. has a QB Rating of 101 at home and 88 on the road since 2008. It is the second biggest home and road QBR gap in the league. There is a reason this team struggles on the road and he is one of the factors behind that. As for his home play, there is no doubt he will be up for this game. If they have no Green in the lineup, it will not help. But having Williams in the lineup gives the Steelers an opportunity to line Bell up in different spots. We will see how this shakes out, but needless to say it has the makings of a very fun game to watch.
