Pittsburgh Riverhounds Roundup: 2017 Home Start Times And More

The hope of rebuilding for a possible playoff appearance comes with the beginning of February for the fans of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. One of the first priorities for head coach Dave Brandt over training camp and the preseason is settling on a starting goalkeeper between newcomers Trey Mitchell and Keasel Broome.

Other Voices: Forward Corey Hertzog talked with Rachael McKriger from the Pittsburgh Sporting News about advice for the 14 new players in training camp, “Just listen. Don’t try to come in here and act like you know what’s going on. I mean, the guys here have been all good. They come in, they listen and stay behind the leaders. Eventually, if they play well and are one of the players, then that’s great.”

Brandt spoke with the Pittsburgh Soccer Report‘s John Krysinsky about the preseason schedule, “Playing a mix (of college and pro teams) is fine. As early as we started preseason, nobody’s playing at that time, college or pro, it’s going to be five weeks of preseason before we play. It wasn’t possible to get anyone before Feb. 18 when we play vs North Carolina FC. I was able to contact and use some of my college relationships to try to schedule games. We have seven lined up now, but it’s possible we may have an eighth between the last one scheduled vs Rochester (March 13) and the opener (on March 25 vs defending league champs NY Red Bulls II).”

Nicholas Murray of uslsoccer.com selected his Top Ten Contests of the regular season to watch this summer. He has the Thursday, June 22 match between the Riverhounds and Tampa Bay Rowdies at Highmark Stadium at No. 4. The last time these squads met was two seasons ago in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Pittsburgh claimed a 1-0 win on Rob Vincent’s stoppage-time winner.
