The NFL Draft is just a little over a week away and with no clear indication of who the Cleveland Browns are going to select at number one, there is a pretty clear indication of who the Philadelphia Eagles plan to take at 14.
According to a league source, the Eagles are very high on Stanford’s running back, Christian McCaffrey and that if he’s there at 14, the plan is to take him.
McCaffrey, who set a NCAA record with 3,864 all-purpose yards, ranking second in the FBS with 2,019 rushing yards, along with 645 receiving and 1,070 on kickoff returns in 2015 is a true all-purpose back. And with an aging Darren Sproles who’s coming off of a 571 snap count season (62 snaps on special teams), the Eagles taking McCaffrey at 14 would make a lot of sense.
And according to NFL Network draft analyst Charles Davis, the best route runner in the draft, is Christian McCaffrey.
“I think he’s the best route runner in the draft and I include all wide receivers, tight ends, H-backs, whatever you wanna pick,” Davis told Joe DeCamara and former Eagles fullback Jon Ritchie on Monday’s 94WIP Midday Show.
“I think he’s the most complete back in the draft,” Davis said of McCaffrey. “The way we run the ball in the NFL now — there are less Jon’s running around in front of people that clear the way. And you have to find your own way, so we do it more of a space game. And that’s what Christian does as well as anyone in this draft, at worst. I think better than most in this draft. Plus he catches the ball.”
The first round of the NFL Draft starts at 7:00 pm ET on ESPN. And for the first time ever, DYST will stream it’s first ever NFL Draft show which will start at 6:00 pm ET through Facebook Live and Twitter.
