BIG3

Recap: BIG3 Tulsa

Week three of the BIG3 league is now a wrap and it was maybe the most entertaining day of the league so far. The evening was jam-packed with long distance shots, high-powered dunks, and great finishes. This was a week where certain teams and players could separate themselves from the rest and in Tulsa, Oklahoma we finally saw some performances that we had been waiting for.

Final Game Stats

3 headed monsters has been that team all year that we knew had it in them to compete for the championship but poor performances the first two weeks from Abdul-Rauf had been holding the team back. He finally came out and just let the ball fly. The game was tight to start with a score of 14-13 in favor of 3 Headed Monsters. Then they went on a huge run and jumped out to a lead that they would never give back. Abdul-Rauf finally had his breakout night and scored 22 points and shot north of 60% from the field. He also rained in four three pointers and had five assists. This is not to overshadow Rashard Lewis’s great game where he dropped 20 points. With those two combining for 42 of the 3 Headed Monsters 50 points they easily got this win by an 18 point margin.

GAME 2: Killer 3s (51) vs. Tri-State (44)

Final Game Stats

One of the more entertaining games came from the two winless teams in the league. Neither has shown any promise so we kind of knew this would be close. Hopefully one of them could show us something that we could believe in but that really didn’t come across. Tri-State jumped out to an early lead and lead by nine at half. While everyone put in solid efforts on Killer 3s in the second half ,including Reggie Evans 12 and 18, Chauncey Billups was the standout player. He dropped 22 points and when his team needed it most he stepped up and hit the four point shot to all but seal the game. Killer 3s took this game by a margin of seven points with the final of 51to 44.

GAME 3: Ghost Ballers (50) vs. Ball Hogs (45)

Final Game Stats

Mike Bibby earned player of the week for his outstanding performance last week, but it wasn’t his game that really elevated Ghost Ballers over the Ball Hogs in this game. Ricky Davis dropped 23 points and coupled that with 9 rebounds in a game that never really seemed in doubt. The Ball Hogs did make the game close in the end. Rasual Butler poured in three after three to try and real this game back in the favor of the Ball Hogs but the Ghost Ballers were just clicking on all cylinders. Getting contributions from Ivan Johnson who put in 16 proved to be the difference as the Ballers took this one by five.

GAME 4:  Trilogy (50) vs. 3’s Company (42)

Final Game Stats

The final game of the night was the one that got people watching on TV to sit on the edge of their seats and maybe even stand up. This game had everything….except for Allen Iverson scoring. But that’s another story for another day. Al Harrington, who should be MVP at this point in the season, continued his steady performances with another 18 points. Rashad McCants was again impressive with 19 points but it was not enough. The Trilogy continued the quest to go undefeated and grabbed their third victors in as many weeks.

The Big3 hits Philadelphia next week so be sure to tune in to Fox Sports 1 at 8 pm ET on Monday July 17th. Let’s hope Iverson puts on a show for the Philly fans.
