All 30 NBA teams would show interest in future hall of famer Tim Duncan if he decided to lace the shoes back up. Though, the NBA isn’t the one showing interest. BIG3 commissioner and former teammate, Roger Mason is trying to recruit the five-time NBA Champion to come and play in the BIG3 league.
“I did reach out to Tim early on but I didn’t hear back but I think ultimately, it’s going to be a sit down,” said Mason. “I am sure Tim has seen the games now, and if he hasn’t I am still planning on coming down to San Antonio to grab some food with him and try to get him in our league.”
In the first season of the BIG3 the league has been must-see television as nearly every game is a sellout and it’s already lured in some former NBA greats. With the names of Julius Erving, Allen Iverson, Chauncey Billups, Gary Payton, Clyde Drexler, Stephen Jackson and more, the possibility of more NBA greats is high.
“We thought that we would have to really work hard, to really prove that we had a credible league that wanted to bring 3-on-3 basketball to the professional level,” said Co-Founder Ice Cube talking about how quickly the BIG3 has grown. “We thought that would take a little time, but it shows how people want something fresh and something real and here we are.”
It’s still unclear if Duncan will join the BIG3 league or not. But it’s definitely amazing that already in year one, more NBA greats are being mentioned as possible additions.
“I think Tim will be a great BIG3 player,” said Mason. “Obviously, he’s one of the greatest players of all time. I think he would fit in really nicely here so we still have hope for next year with Tim. “
