Josh Bell went 4 for 6 and drove in 4 runs leading the Pirates to a win over the Rockies by the final score of 13-5. During the game though, Gregory would pull up lame running to first base with a hamstring issue. It was in the same leg he was out with earlier this season and there is no doubt the mile high air probably had something to do with it. With Polanco streaking right now, the Pirates can only hope his injury is not sever.
The win last night would move the Bucs to within 2 games of the Brewers and 1 of the Cubs as Both teams would lose.
The Rockies, coming into this series had just scored over 40 runs in 3 games, including a streak of 4 games in a row with at least 9 runs in each. Last night, Pirates Trevor Williams would pitch nearly 7 full innings giving up 5 runs, which in Colorado is a quality start. Trevor has slowly turned into a very trusted starter on this staff as he has given up 3 runs or less in over 80% of his starts.
With the Pirates now just 2 games out of first and 1 game behind the Cubs, the Central division has turned into a dog race.
The win also put the Pirates a game over .500 for the first time since April. Chad Kuhl will go tonight for the Pirates and will be opposite German M’arquez of the Rocks. M’arquez is 7-4 this year and is 4-2 at home averaging 6 innings a start. Pirates have an opportunity this weekend to make some hay so good starts by the starters this weekend will help.
