The Pirates could finish the season 10 games under .500 and 25 games out of first. But for one amazing day in August, Baseball Showed us all just why it can be such a beautiful game. Sean Rodriquez had 72 hours to report to the Pirates after Neil Huntington traded for him Yesterday. All Sean did was hustle(like we are used to seeing) to the ball park in less than 24 hours to the team he never wanted to leave so that he could help them get to the post season. After 12+ innings of baseball, SeanRod did just that as he would come to the plate in his second at bat and hit a walk-off home run to win the game for the Bucs. Baseball can be Romantic that way…
First off, the win today draws the Pirates to within 4.5 games of first as the Cubs lost today.
With that said there is no reason to rehash any part of this game other than what Sean Rod did for the fans and his former and now current teammates. He is a player that Huntington should have never let go. I realize that the move to get him was not the blockbuster most wanted and his salary is more than what most would like to pay him. With that said, he was really good for the Pirates last year and now has an opportunity to take that leadership role on this team.
As I gave the GM hell just a few days ago for a lack of quality moves, this was one of the good ones and I am happy he made it. Not just because of what he did today, but because he was very productive as a player for the Pirates. The fans love him, the team loves him and he is a guy that the organization can feel good about running out there at nearly every position everyday.
