For the second consecutive season, Anson Reppermund is on the AUDL All-Defense squad. The third-year D-line cutter contributed 30 blocks, and 170 defensive points played over 15 contests for the Black and Gold. When it comes to being the Minister of Defense on the South Side, Reppermund is the all-time career leader in blocks.
Max Thorne is a member of the league’s All-Midwest Division crew as the O-line cutter added 29 goals, 41 assists, and 351 completions to the box score in 12 matchups.
My candidate for Thunderbirds Most Valuable Player is 6-foot-2 O-line handler, Pat Earles. The former member of the acclaimed University of Pittsburgh’s En Sabar Nur ultimate disc program led the team in assists with 50, was fifth in goals with 19, third in hockey assists with 25, and fourth in completions with 333. He played 371 minutes, fourth best on the team, over 12 matches.
.Jon Mast and Ethan “Birdman” Beardsley were among the 73 players across the AUDL in 2017 who earned the Steel Spirit Award. It goes to the players who participated in all of their team’s 14 regular season contests.
The Thunderbirds made it to the playoffs for the third straight season, and it takes a consistent offense to climb the standings. Leading the attack was Mark Federenko who delivered with 33 goals in 11 matchups.
Pittsburgh tied with the Austin Sol for the most Callahan’s in the league this summer with four apiece. This play occurs when a member of the defense intercepts the disc in the oppositions’ end zone for a point. Scott Trimble claimed two of the four Callahan’s for the T-birds.
Dan Fiorino in his “Stats Of The Game” research rated Pittsburgh’s Sam VanDusen, Thorne, and Earles as players who came through in the fourth quarter this season. The T-birds also led the AUDL in miles traveled in 2017 and dubbed this season’s road warriors.
