The college football playoff has been set and the most intriguing matchup is the Rose Bowl between the #3 Georgia Bulldogs and the #2 Oklahoma Sooners. There will be a lot of stars on the field, including the Heisman Trophy winner, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield. This is going to be a great game but I’m going to give you three reasons why Georgia will win.
#1 The Georgia Defense
The Dawgs have by far the best defense that Oklahoma has faced this season. The defense is led by Junior middle linebacker Roquan Smith. Smith won the Butkus Award which is given to the nation’s best linebacker. Mayfield has made a lot of plays with his feet, but will struggle to out run the UGA linebackers. The Oklahoma offense will struggle with the physicality that Georgia will bring.
#2 The Battle in the Trenches
I really believe that Georgia is the more physical of the two teams. Georgia should win the battle upfront and that trends well into their favor being that they love to feed their running backs. But this goes both ways, the Georgia front seven has a chance to get their push as well. They will have a good oppurtunity to cause havoc up front and make Baker Mayfield run for his life and limit his big play ability.
#3 Time of Possession
Georgia will look to feed Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, and D’Andre Swift as often as possible. The Georgia backfield is arguably the best in the nation. Georgia will pound the Oklahoma defense and keep the ball away from Baker Mayfield and the high octane Oklahoma offense. Georgia will be able to run straight at Oklahoma and have slow methodical drives. This will allow them to control the clock and play keep away and ultimately be one of the reasons Georgia will knock off Oklahoma.
