The Boston Celtics and newly free agent, Greg Monroe agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal Friday. Monroe, who cleared waivers after a contract buyout that happened Saturday with the Phoenix Suns chose the Celtics over the New Orleans Pelicans.
It was interesting choice for Monroe as a New Orleans native, he would’ve been able to play for his hometown team and likely start, but the chance at winning an NBA Championship was just too much to pass up on.
According to multiple reports it’s not clear how much playing time he’ll get in Boston. But what is clear is, Monroe’s ability to score the ball inside which gives Boston another dimension as it prepares to make a push for a deep run into the Eastern Conference playoffs.
In 23 minutes a game with the Suns, Monroe has averaged 11.3 points and eight rebounds. This is going to be a great fit for Boston as they’ve been in need of another scoring option when Kyrie Irving goes to the bench.
