The Phoenix Suns and the Orlando Magic ended up getting into the mix late on Thursday as the two agreed on a deal that would make Elfrid Payton a Phoenix Sun. As for the Magic they received a second round pick in return.
Crazy? Yes. Many people viewed Payton worthy of more than a second round pick, but the Magic thought the deal was right. Payton who’s putting up career highs in scoring (13.0 points per game), field-goal percentage (.520) and 3-point shooting percentage (.373) makes it hard to believe that the Magic would give him up for just a second round pick. Despite being criticized heavily for his defense, this was a terrible trade for the Magic.
Former first round pick, D.J. Augustin will likely become the starter in Orlando with Payton likely starting in Phoenix.
