Bracketology March 6

We are less than a week away from Selection Sunday. Let that sink in for a moment. As the calendar has officially turned to March, all eyes have turned to the college basketball world. Fans are eagerly awaiting to get a copy of that finalized bracket so they can try their fool-proof matchup prediction method or so they can give a copy to their 9 year old son who will pick randomly and win their office pool. There are only a few sporting events that no matter if you are sports fan or not, everyone gets involved. The few that come to mind is the Super Bowl, any big international event like the Olympics or World Cup, and March Madness. For the final week here at DYSTNow, look for daily bracketology updates as there is bound to be a lot of movement during champ week with bubble teams on the move and mid-majors stealing bids. Some games to watch today is Syracuse-Wake Forest at 7:00 as Syracuse will most likely miss the tournament with a loss today and BYU-Gonzaga at 9:00 in the WCC championship game as a win for BYU is the only way they are getting into the field of 68 which means they would most likely knock another bubble team out of the field. Speaking of bubble teams, let’s take a look at a few.

Team A
Record: 20-10
Conference Record: 8-10
RPI: 59
BPI: 44
KenPom: 38
RPI Top 50 Wins: 5
RPI Sub 100 Losses: 1

Team B
Record: 17-14
Conference Record: 8-10
RPI: 58
BPI: 53
KenPom: 53
RPI Top 50 Wins: 6
RPI Sub 100 Losses: 3

Both these teams are neck and neck when it comes to RPI but Team B has a few too many losses, specifically bad losses that are keeping it out of the field while Team A has similar numbers but its advanced metrics and bad losses are the differentiating factor putting it in the field. Team A is Arizona State and Team B is Alabama. Alabama looked to be in good shape but they have lost their last 5 and are in desperate need of some wins in the SEC Tournament while Arizona State has some very big non-conference wins over Kansas and Xavier that will most likely keep them in the field.
