34th edition of WrestleMania

We are just one week away from the grand daddy of them all WRESTLEMANIA. The 34th edition of the event may have the most stacked card in recent memory, including; a bonafide show stealer, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. AJ Styles, the return of Daniel Bryan, oh and Ronda Rousey’s in-ring debut. WWE has tailored WrestleMania to the main stream fan over the past few years, featuring many cheap pop segments, including three consecutive years featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Rocky was not featured at last year’s show, so you can bet your bottom dollar the People’s Champ will make his presence felt inside the Superdome to promote his new movie Rampage, in theatres April 13th, there’s your cheap plug.

The surprise return factor has been slightly shifted due to the unexpected return of Daniel Bryan, but WrestleMania 34 will have plenty of unexpected moments. Here are 5 BOLD predictions..

1. Braun Strowman’s mystery partner will be Dave Bautista

Since an unceremoniously bad run in 2014 that saw Bautista win the Royal Rumble to a chorus of BOOS and loss a WWE World Championship triple-threat match to Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30. WWE now returns to the same city that Bautista suffered one the worst losses of his career. Since then, Dave Bautista has become a movie star, thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. He too will have a new movie coming out at the end of the April, Avengers: Infinity War. WWE already has the corporate umbrella on top of this one, showing trailers for the film on their build to WrestleMania. Bautista has always shown interest in another WWE run. Over the past several months Braun Strowman has literally and figuratively ran through the entire WWE roster, besides Brock Lesnar. He has also made some subtle gestures to the camera during post-match beatdowns of his opponents, where he is points one-thumb down and then executes his finishing move, the running power slam. In the mid-2000s when Bautista was in the prime of his career, he would signal for his trademark Bautista bomb with a thumbs-down expression and then finish off his opponents. WWE loves these little subtleties to keep fans guessing. Here is my GUESS. Bautista’s music will hit in New Orleans and he and Strowman will be become the Raw Tag Team Champions of the World!

2. The Rock will interrupt Elias as he is serenading New Orleans

Elias is WAY OVER with the WWE Universe right now and his trademark singing segments are a big reason why. Unfortunately there is so much star power and great matches already on this card that Elias has been left off, or so we think. In the weeks leading up to the event Elias has promised a performance at the show of shows and he will not disappoint. Once Elias starts delivering lyrics that begin to roast the New Orleans crowd and get some white hot heat, the immortal sound of…IF YOU SMELL, WHAT THE ROCK, IS COOKING! The music will hit and the crowd pop will be thunderous, shaking the signs on Bourbon street.

Some of the best Rocky segments happened during his build to WrestleMania 19 when he and Stone Cold Steve Austin would meet for the very last time. During the build to that match, The Rock had already left for Hollywood and became a Mega Star, but the promos he cut as a thoroughbred heel were simply outstanding. One promo took place just six days

before WrestleMania 19. The Rock held his first ever, “Rock Concert,” in Sacramento, California. During that singing promo, he cut down the crowd in Sacramento, all with a heelish grin on his face. Some of The Rock’s best work to date and that segment capped what was all and all an alright build to his match against Steve Austin. However this time around, the Rock will save the day. At WrestleMania 34, after Elias starts cutting in to the fans in attendance, The Rock will stroll down the aisle and re-introduce the masses to the most Electrifying concert in Sports Entertainment and then proceed to lay the Smackdown on Elias’s candy ass.

3. Conor McGregor will be at WrestleMania 34

The Notrorious one has teased the WWE universe for far too long with all the talks of the potential for him to step into the squared circle. With the arrival of Ronda Rousey, the MMA star now has someone with a familiar background to hang his hat on. Vince McMahon has very deep pockets and if he likes something, he goes out and gets it. My thought is that McGregor will be in attendance for the event and jump the barricade in a planned segment, similar to what Rob Gronkowski pulled off at WrestleMania 33.

In which capacity WWE will Conor McGregor after that remains to be seen but take it to the bank that he will be featured during the show.

4. Lars Sullivan will win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

The Leviathan Lars Sullivan is somewhat of a new name to the NXT roster, but boy does he have some country boy strength and a distinct look that will give your children nightmares. Lars Sullivan has been hot and cold during his time in NXT, with a couple of pushes being halted by some nagging injuries. However, it appears that Lars is ready to stake his claim in WWE. He is already slated for the NEW North American Championship ladder match at NXT: Takeover New Orleans, the night before WrestleMania. In years past WWE has liked to introduce the universe to “New” superstars during popcorn segments like the Andre the Giant Battle Royal. This would be as good as time as ever to showcase some new talent and hopefully keep more eye balls on the screen during a part of the show that I usually use a bathroom break/beer run.

5. Daniel Bryan turns Heel on Shane McMahon during their tag match

This one is the BOLDEST of the bold predictions but now that Daniel Bryan has been cleared for in-ring action, we need some payoff to the tension that WWE creative has made between him and Smackdown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon. For months it was believed that Bryan would never wrestle in a WWE ring again. During that time, Daniel

Bryan has played the on-screen role of Smackdown General Manager to near perfection. The story goes, that his long time friends, since their days in the Ring of Honor promotion, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens were Bryan’s pet projects and that he was living vicariously through them as they tried to dismantle the corporate shill Shane McMahon. During the telling of this story, that began way back at Hell in a Cell pay per view in October, the stage has been set for the Bryan heel turn on his boss. However just one week ago, after the news broke that Bryan was cleared for in-ring competition after a 2-year hiatus, his “friends,” savagely beat him down after Daniel Bryan kayfabe fired Zayn and Owens for their assault of Smackdown commissioner Shane McMahon the week previous.

This now sets up the tag match between Bryan/McMahon vs. Zayn/Owens at WrestleMania, with the stipulation that if Zayn/Owens loss they will remain fired from Smackdown Live. I have many theories on this, but what I keep coming back to is why not make the most white meat baby face of our generation and turn him into a rogue heel and just see what happens? I think this would be a test run, but Bryan should screw McMahon out of this match and start a three-man faction on Smackdown Live with his buddies Zayn and Owens.

Regardless of how these predictions turnout, Wrestlemania 34 should be a terrific show. For smart marks and main streamers alike, sit down and enjoy the spectacle!
