The Bucks came into the TD Garden Thursday night with an undefeated record. With a new coach in Mike Budenholzer, the Bucks actually look like they can unlock a new level that they couldn’t with Jason Kidd or Jason “I look like I want to sell you a pocket watch from a trench coat” Prunty. Giannis might unlock that new level this season.
But they weren’t better than the Celtics Thursday night and they won’t be better than the Celtics come seasons end. The Celtics set a team record with 24 threes made.
The Celtics threw out a groovy starting five of Kyrie-Tatum-Hayward-Semi Ojeleye-Al Horford. Giannis waltzed into the Ojeleye Factory and put up a measly 9 points on 24 possessions when Ojeleye was guarding him. As much as I love Semi, he’s one of the last guys off the bench so him putting the clamps on the Greek Freak in the absence of Jaylen Brown was an exciting feat to watch.
Marcus Morris in a contract year. Before the season, I wanted the Celtics to do all they could to keep him. Now, with the start to the season the Flask Dad has had? I NEED the Celtics to do all they can to keep him. He had 17 points and 5 rebounds on Thursday and on the season is averaging 14.8 & 7.1 with an insane 50/51/86 shooting split. Mook has been that guy off the bench for the Celtics and knows that nobody on the other teams bench can stop him.

Kyrie cut his hair before Tuesdays game against the Pistons, adopted a “Be Cool” mantra after a tough start and now is averaging 29.5 PPG and 6 APG with a 50/53/90 shooting split in the two games since. The Untucked Byrie meter is all the way up.
However it wasn’t all fine and dandy. The Celtics are the cream of the crop in the East but this shouldn’t have been a four point game. The second quarter woes continued (outscored 37-32 in the quarter) and got outscored 35-24 in the fourth. Boston got dominated in the paint (outscored 62-22). That can’t happen moving forward.
At the end of the day, beating an undefeated team at home in November won’t matter much when it’s all said and done. But in a vacuum, it was a very good early season win.
