Yankees @ Blue Jays
The New York Yankees look to bounce back after dropping the first game of the series against the Toronto Blue Jays as James Paxton also known as Big Maple takes the bump in his home country for the first time as a Yankee. The Blue Jays will try to build off their first win in their last seven games against the AL East leading Yankees. Paxton (3-2, 2.81) will be matching up against Trent Thornton (1-4, 4.53) in the AL East clash of two teams headed opposite directions. I am siding with the Yankees to get back in the win column as they should be able to take care of business behind one of their top starters. Take the Yankees in this matchup and look for it to hit over nineas well with the Yankees bats coming alive in this one.
Pick: Yankees / Over 9
Rays @ Tigers
The Tampa Bay Rays head into game two of the seriesagainst Detroit with four straight losses and coming back to earth a bit after being one of the best teams in baseball in the first half. The Tigers have been struggling to get wins at home this season with a 9-17 record. Charlie Morton (6-0, 2.54) will take the bump looking for his 7th win and to stay undefeated on the season against Spencer Turnbull (3-4, 2.84) who has pitched exceptionally well this season. Although, the Rays have been in a slump the past few games, look for them to bounce back behind Morton tonight in low scoring affair between two starters having great seasons.
Phillies @ Padres
The NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies match up against the San Diego Padres as Jake Arrieta (5-5, 3.96) looks to outduelJoey Lucchesi (4-3, 3.96) in San Diego. This should be one of the most intriguing games of the night as both starters have had similar seasons. Not to mention the storylines of key free agent acquisitions Bryce Harper and Manny Machado facing off against one another. Thus far, both stars have struggled thisseason but that does not diminish the importance each has had in their team’s success. Sometimes it takes games like this to bring out the star power in each as I am interested in this matchup tonight. Both teams have similar records in the first few months of the season, but I am siding with the Phillies as they have the superior lineup and expect Arrieta to get back on track after giving up five runs against the Dodgers in his previous start.
