Pittsburgh, PA — The Atlantic 10 revealed the home and away matchups for each of the women’s basketball teams Wednesday afternoon.
Duquesne will host Davidson, Dayton, Richmond, Saint Louis and VCU while traveling to face Fordham, George Mason, La Salle, UMass and Rhode Island. This also means that George Washington, St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph’s will each play Duquesne twice.
Last year, Duquesne also played St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph’s twice, but now GW will replace VCU as a home-and-home opponent.
Duquesne earned a first-round bye in the Atlantic 10 Championship last year based on regular season play, but fell in the quarterfinals to Saint Louis.

Also, part of Duquesne’s non-conference schedule has been revealed.
First, Duquesne will be traveling to Austin to face #10 Texas in a true road contest Nov. 8. In recent years, Duquesne has faced highly-ranked teams including UConn twice and Ohio State once.
It will be the first time these two programs have met.
“We have experience under our belts,” Duquesne senior guard Conor Richardson said. “We’re just ready, I don’t know how else to put it. Bring it on.”
Duquesne also will be traveling to face Toledo on Nov. 18 in a game which will tip off at 2 p.m. These two teams met last year at the Palumbo Center with the Dukes winning a 73-54 contest.
Lastly, it is also known that Duquesne will travel to face Penn State on Dec. 5. Duquesne is 0-16 in program history against the Lady Lions, and this will be the first meeting between these teams since Nov. 22, 2005.
Odds and ends
Also as noted at the Atlantic 10 annual meeting, the conference championship venue will change due to construction of Richmond Coliseum.
Instead, games will be played at campus sites according to a conference press release. No further detail was provided.
In an interview with DYSTNow.com in March Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette McGlade said that the conference would be out of Richmond for at least the next two years and two options were being seriously considered. Bringing the championship back to campus sites was one option with another doing earlier rounds on campus and take from the 2013 idea of playing the championship game at Barclays Center.
This was the first year that the conference played at the Barclays Center and the venue is in play once again as the entire men’s basketball championship will be housed there this season.
“It’s not just as easy as saying ‘let’s do it again next year’, we have to make sure we have our ESPN TV window, we have to make sure we have a determination of where the quarter and semifinals will be,” McGlade said in March. “We are spending a lot of time on this, because women’s basketball is important to the A-10 and to our schools.”
Last year was the second in the new format which had the top-two seeds earning first round byes and seeds three through eight each hosting a first round Atlantic 10 Championship game. Each home team won those first round contests in both years.
This year, Duquesne returns everyone with the exception of Judith Sole who was lost to graduation. Duquesne will also have guard Nina Aho (redshirt year), guard Halle Bovell (redshirt year), guard Caroline Elliott (freshman), forward Laia Sole (redshirt due to transfer) and forward Angela Staffileno (redshirt) on the roster this season.
Currently Burt states that the plan is to redshirt Elliott and junior guard Anie-Pier Samson this season.
